Abstrak

Purpose — This article aims to analyse how faith-based organisations (FBOs) respond to the demands of digital transformation while maintaining the religious authority and values that serve as the foundation of their legitimacy.

Design/methodology/approach — This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach based on a narrative-thematic literature review, examining journal articles, institutional reports, and policy documents published between 2022 and 2025. Thematic analysis was conducted to map patterns of technology adoption, institutional challenges, and capacity-building strategies for FBOs.

Findings — The results indicate that digitalisation has a positive impact on administrative efficiency, transparency in managing public funds, and the expansion of cross-generational da'wah outreach. However, technology adoption has not been accompanied by equitable strengthening of human resource digital literacy, resulting in a gap between urban and rural institutions. The success of FBO digital transformation is largely determined by the simultaneous readiness of all three dimensions of intellectual capital.

Originality — The novelty of this article lies in integrating the intellectual capital framework with the context of religious organisation governance in the digital era—a topic that has previously been discussed separately in the business sector and secular nonprofit organisations. This article offers a conceptual framework that can serve as a reference for managers of da'wah institutions in formulating sustainable institutional transformation strategies.
