Publication Ethics

Freakonomics: Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance

Freakonomics: Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance is a peer-reviewed academic journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal serves as an authoritative platform for disseminating original research, review articles, and case studies in the fields of Islamic economics, finance, and related interdisciplinary areas. All submitted manuscripts must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate, transparent, and objective account of their research. Data should be reported honestly without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation. The manuscript must provide sufficient detail and references to allow replication.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, constitutes unethical behavior and is strictly prohibited.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publications

Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Redundant publication or fragmentation of research findings into multiple papers without proper justification is unethical.

Acknowledgment of Sources

All sources of data, theories, and prior research must be appropriately acknowledged. Proper citation practices must be followed to ensure academic transparency.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research, including conceptualization, methodology, analysis, or interpretation. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript prior to submission.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that may influence the interpretation of their results. All sources of funding must be clearly stated.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If authors discover significant errors in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.

Duties of Editors

Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for deciding which manuscripts are accepted, rejected, or require revision based on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Decisions must be free from bias and based on peer review outcomes.

Peer Review Process

Editors must ensure a fair, rigorous, and confidential peer review process. Qualified reviewers with relevant expertise should be selected, avoiding any conflicts of interest.

Fairness and Impartiality

Editorial decisions must be made solely on academic merit without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or institutional affiliation.

Confidentiality

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not disclose any information to unauthorized parties.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished materials for personal research and must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.

Duties of Reviewers

Confidentiality

Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and must not share or discuss them without authorization.

Objectivity and Constructiveness

Reviews must be conducted objectively, providing clear, evidence-based, and constructive feedback to improve the manuscript quality.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant literature not cited by the authors and report any suspected plagiarism or duplication.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist, whether personal, institutional, or financial.

Timeliness

Reviewers are expected to complete their evaluations within the agreed timeframe. If unable to do so, they must inform the editor promptly.

Ethical Oversight and Integrity

The journal adheres to internationally recognized ethical standards, including those recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Any allegations of misconduct—such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices—will be investigated thoroughly. Appropriate actions, including retraction or correction, will be taken when necessary.

Publisher Responsibilities

The publisher is committed to ensuring that all published materials adhere to ethical standards and academic integrity. The publisher supports editorial independence and takes necessary measures to safeguard the scholarly record.
