Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of syntactic interference in Arabic conversation among third-level female students at Universitas Al-Amien Prenduan, focusing on its forms and underlying causes. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through listening, interviews, and conversation analysis. The findings reveal multiple forms of syntactic interference, including word order disruptions, the use of verbs inconsistent with the subject, errors in particle usage, and literal translation from Indonesian. Key factors influencing this phenomenon include the mother tongue, bilingualism, limited Arabic vocabulary, and established linguistic habits. The study highlights the importance of awareness of syntactic structures and recommends the use of practical and contextual learning methods, such as conversation simulations and consistent practice. These findings have implications for enhancing students’ Arabic speaking skills, improving grammatical accuracy, and guiding instructors in designing teaching strategies that reduce syntactic interference, thereby strengthening both language competence and instructional quality.
