Abstract

Arabic morphology instruction has traditionally emphasized taṣrīf iṣṭilāḥī through the memorization of morphological paradigms, while the role of taṣrīf lughawī as a productive competence for Arabic sentence construction has received limited scholarly attention. Meanwhile, contemporary linguistics and Artificial Intelligence highlight the importance of productive morphological analysis in meaning construction and language processing. This study aims to reposition taṣrīf lughawī and taṣrīf iṣṭilāḥī within Arabic morphology instruction by proposing taṣrīf lughawī as the foundation of Arabic sentence construction. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Miftahul Ulum Panyeppen, Pamekasan. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. The findings reveal that taṣrīf iṣṭilāḥī functions primarily as a conceptual framework for developing learners' morphological awareness, whereas taṣrīf lughawī serves as the productive competence that enables word formation, sentence construction, and meaning-making in authentic communicative contexts. Based on these findings, the study proposes a conceptual model positioning taṣrīf iṣṭilāḥī as the conceptual foundation and taṣrīf lughawī as the productive mechanism of Arabic morphology instruction. The study contributes to the advancement of Arabic morphology pedagogy by integrating insights from classical Arabic morphology, contemporary linguistic theory, and Artificial Intelligence, particularly within the domain of Arabic Natural Language Processing
